Rabbi Emeritus

What a celebration!

The “Sensational at 60” birthday breakfast festivities began even before anyone enters the building, with a guest appearance in the parking lot by the Melville Fire Department’s truck 2-5-1, a truck Rabbi Jacknis helped dedicate as the department’s chaplain. The fire department kicked off the ceremonies with an honor guard presenting the colors and made a presentation to the Rabbi, who is also celebrating his thirteenth year as its chaplain.

The morning continued with a breakfast buffet, performances from the SHJC early childhood program, religious school and choir, led by Hazzan Brian Shamash, and presentations and proclamations from officials with the Town of Huntington and other dignitaries.

Rabbi Jacknis has served as the South Huntington Jewish Center’s spiritual leader for nearly 21 years. He is also a past president of the Rabbinical Assembly of Nassau-Suffolk as well as the Suffolk Council of Jewish Organizations.  Rabbi Jacknis is married to Suri Jacknis, the associate director of congregational learning for The Jewish Education Project. Together, they are the parents of three children, Noam, Yael and Nava.  Noam is engaged to be married this Fall to Candace Boker.
